President Pranab
Mukherji inaugurated several programmes of the Central Government and the state
government under the flagship visions of Skill Development, Digital India and
infrastructure development at Deoghar, Jharkhand. The President was accompanied
by Governor of Jharkhand Smt Draupadi Murmu, Minister of State for Skill
Development and Entrepreneurship Sri Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Minister for
Skill Development in the Government of Jharkhand Sri Raj Paliwal, MP Nishikant
Dubey, BJP Spokesperson Shri Shah Nawaz Hussain, and top state officials
including the Chief Secretary Smt Rajbala Verma.
The President and his
entourage was welcomed by the Chief Secretary at the Deoghar College premises
where he did an online inauguration of several projects including a Solar
Street Lamp project of 44 kilometers between Deoghar and Basukinath, a Software
Technology Park in the college, a hospital for the state government employees
to be run by the Jharkhand Life Insurance Corporation, and a Driving Training
Centre to be jointly run by the Ministries of Skill Development of the
Governments of India and Jharkhand.
Speaking during the
inauguration, President Mukherji expressed hope that the skill development
programmes may provide substantial opportunities for employment generation for
the youth of India. These programmes must secure the employment needs of the
people as well as respond to the changing global demands of services and fast
changing workforce. The problem of job creation must be solved in a dynamic
manner and it must be ensured that people are imparted skills that also become
integral to the economic development of this vast country. The President
expressed his a sense of satisfaction at the achievements of Jharkhand after
achieving statehood in 2000, particularly in the fields of resource management
and industrial infrastructure. Coming as he does from Bengal, the President
took special pleasure in remembering the area’s historical association with
undivided Bengal Presidency which also comprised Orissa and Assam for a long
part of modern Indian history. He remembered with pride the sacrifices of the
leaders of the Santhal Hool, Sido and Kanhu, whom he hailed as pioneers of
nationalist agitation against colonial rule.
Speaking during the
occasion Governor Draupadi Murmu highlighted the central role industrial skills
play in fast industrializing states like Jharkhand, a point that was also
reiterated by Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy. Sri Raj Paliwal expressed gratitude
on behalf of the state during his Vote of Thanks.
Earlier during the
day, the President had offered his prayers at the holy Baidyanath Temple in
Deoghar where he was welcomed amid Vedic incantations and stately rituals.
